"You Make My Day" Award

I was surprised, pleased and a tad curious to discover I had received an award this morning. What could I possibly have done that merited such a thing I wondered? Well as it turns out I haven't actually 'done' anything other than be a nice person ... isn't that cool? Jules at Creative Makes had selected little ol' moi as one of 5 people to receive this "Make My Day" award. A small gesture but it made me feel really 'chuffed' and now I am going to pass it on and see if I can bring a smile to someone else's day.
Thank you Jules ... you 'Made My Day'

Here are the instructions I have to follow ...

* Write a post with links to 5 blogs you find of interest and that inspire you.
* Acknowledge the post of the award giver.
* Display the logo "You Make My Day"
* Tell the award winners that they have won by commenting on their blogs with the news.

Now as a fairly new blogger I haven't got a lot of people to choose from and there are a couple of people I would like to send this award to who don't have a blog ... so that's a shame. However I will do my best and hope not to duplicate anyone else's choices.

* My first choice has to be my dear friend Ann who has been a wonderful friend to me for many years and is a very talented crafter. Check out her wonderful creations HERE
* Another talented crafter whose blog I love to visit is Donna. She always has something lovely to show visitors and is a real inspiration. Check out her blog HERE and you'll see what I mean.

* My third choice is for Carolyn, someone whose work I have admired from afar regularly, (long before I was a blogger myself). I have lurked at her blog site and taken great delight in seeing her creativity ooze from the pages but never been brave enough to comment until recently. Check out her chunterings HERE.

* My next choice is a young sixteen year old with oodles of talent who I 'met' through being a member of the CB forum. Pink Punk was a worthy winner of one of the craft challenges and I just know she will win more prizes with her super creations. Take a peek HERE to see her winning entry and her other fabby projects.

* My final selection is another CB friend Adele. Her posts make me smile as she writes as I imagine she speaks which mean her blog entries can be very amusing. Couple that with her enthusiasm and talent and you will understand why I enjoy visiting her blog. Her wonderful creations can be found HERE so I urge you to take a look and admire.

Hope I've followed the instructions correctly and I must now rush off to notify the nominated bloggers ... hope they are as pleased as I was.

Mission now accomplished!

Mother's Day Card

It's been almost a week since my last post but then I did warn that the updates would be "as and when" ... so no surprises there.
Having said that I didn't anticipate quite such a long gap ... but here I am now and I do have something to show ... hope it pleases you as much as it does me. As you all know it is Mother's Day on Sunday 2nd March here in UK, and I have made my mum a bookcard.

The papers used are from the Nostalgia Warm range by Papermania and I love the soft, muted tones of this particular rose paper.
The various embellishments are from my craft stash and I'm sorry I have no idea where I got them all from.

I made a little pocket for the hug tag and wrote the message with a permanent black pen and it reads ...
"Nothing matches the comfort of a Mother's warm HUG"
The final pages have a stamped message on pink vellum and there's room for my personal message on the right.

The book pages are bound with brown organza ribbon which was a bargain buy in Kirkcaldy one day ... 5 metres for 50p!! I think it was a mistake by the sales assistant, but I wasn't saying anything.

Birthday Girl

I made a card for my little niece who is 11 today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRESH!!

I used lilac and pink Dovecraft chalks to colour the
embossed card, but they are not showing too clearly here. With a craft knife and ruler, I cut 2 windows from the card front, around which I glued paper flowers from my stash.

I adhered pale pink vellum to the inside back and then added the silver peel off greeting and flower, lining them up with the windows. I then dipped a cocktail
stick in bright pink glitter glue and added it to the centre of the paper flowers and also used it to dot the letter 'i' in the greeting. As a finishing touch I added a pretty butterfly embellishment between the windows as shown in the close up.

Happy Birthday

Today is my wee brother's birthday ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUV!!
We have always enjoyed a very close relationship ... which may be something to do with the fact that there is only a year between us ... but whatever the reason, he is and always has been, one of my best friends. The card has a little pocket inside where I will stash some cash.

The papers used are from the Basic Grey Colour Me Silly Collection and I acquired them from a fellow CB member who no longer liked them. The ribbon is from my stash and the peel off, letters and fabric badge are from a Docrafts kit.

It's Sunday!

Well it's now Sunday and I've been working on a little something this afternoon, which will have to remain a 'secret' for now as it is a surprise so I can't show piccies yet. It's almost finished so hopefully the wait won't be too long.

Yesterday was a virtual wipeout for me as I had a flare up of a very nasty, recurring medical condition that has plagued me for more years than I care to remember. It is an incurable skin condition called 'Hidradenitis Suppurativa.' If you'd like to know more then I suggest you carry out your own online investigation into it, as I would not subject anyone to an in depth description of what it does to those who suffer from it, (so no direct links here), and if you are squeamish at all then please don't look at the pictures !! Suffice to say it has been the bane of my life and when it kicks in ... it hurts ... A LOT!

Anyway ... I have had every treatment imaginable and undergone countless surgeries, (mostly private as the NHS list was neverending), in the hope of finding relief ... but have reached the point now where I realise I will just have to endure it. So I try to enjoy the good days ... and deal, as best I can, with the bad. So if I disappear without warning, then the chances are the HS is responsible.

So sorry I have nothing to show today ... but it may be worth you visiting tomorrow.

CA February Challenge

I'm a member of a small, but perfectly formed, card making group and every month we are set a wee challenge. This month we were challenged to use 'stitched peel offs' ... something new for me and as it turns out for most of the others too. Here is the end result ... and as you can see my needlework skills are virtually non existent LOL! However, I had a bash and will enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with.

My Birthday

Yesterday as you all know, was Valentine's Day and I always get loads of cards! Not because I have hundreds of lovestruck admirers ..... sigh ..... but because it is also my birthday. Here are some of the handmade cards I received from my special friends at CA (you all know who you are) ...

... and also the cards from my new friends from the Crafts Beautiful forum. I was totally blown away at the time and effort everyone put into making my day so very special. They are all individual works of art and I thank you very much.

Here is the card I made for my husband for Valentine's Day. I like the turquoise, black and gold as a change from the more traditional red and pinks. Inside were the ELO concert tickets ... we are all really looking forward to that on 21st March at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

A New Adventure

Well I have finally succumbed to the growing trend and set up a Blog. How successful this will be is anyone's guess but it will be fun learning I'm sure.
I make no promises to update daily ... or even regularly ... I'm an "as and when" kind've girl so that's how it will be.

I hope that visitors will like what they see here and be interested enough to return now and then to see what I have been up to.

Comments and constructive criticism will always be appreciated ... but please don't be cruel.
